About me…

I have been photographing from I was a teenager, and I have to say, without sounding like a total nerd, photography has been and still is a big part of my life. I say this so you can rest assured that your photographic requirements are well in hand as I have decades of experience (I know, I don’t look old enough!) when it comes to taking photographs and delivering images and memories that clients will enjoy for years to come. But I really would rather you come away from reading this introduction with the feeling that you know me a bit better. This is where you check me out from a safe place, to see if I am suitable for what you need, but you also try to get a feel to make sure I’m not a total nutter before you give me a call.

It is also a chance for me to sell myself in a very short window of time, so here goes…

I’m in my, ahem, 40’s, I’m married 22 years to Amanda, (yes, I definitely don’t look old enough! lol), and we have two teenage daughters, Zara and Lois.

It might be corny to say, but I love my family! I am more in love with my wife than ever, and I adore my two daughters! Don’t get me wrong, we have our ups and downs, and we are by no means a perfect family, we argue and disagree at times, but we are very close, and give us half a chance and we will joke with each other as the four of us really do enjoy a good giggle.

We have two mini Schnauzers, Bailey and Bella, who are an integral part of our family.

I have spent most of my life with a camera on my shoulder, but to help earn a living, I also have been an electrical engineer for all of my adult life. I enjoy being an engineer, working on quite prestigious projects; hospitals, universities and the like, but my real passion is photography.

I am currently in the last few months of a Masters Degree in Photography, I am the Regional Organiser for the Royal Photographic Society in Northern Ireland, and I love teaching photography to anyone and everyone who wants to improve their photographic skills.

You might be looking for one specific type of photographer for your particular event, such as your wedding, engagement, dance event, corporate shoot, new born baby shoot, cake smash, to name but a few, and this is where I will give you a honest reply. I don’t specialise in just one type of photography, and please don’t take this as me being deluded, but I excel in them all. Don’t take my word for it, look at my portfolios and the testimonies of past and current clients. I actually have found that photography genres are not segmented. The skills I have gained in, say, my street photography, where I must be stealthy and fit into the environment to get a candid photograph and also need to have a personality that endears people to me, is transferrable to wedding photography, where I want to get photographs that show the fun and laughter of the day without ruining the atmosphere by my presence being noticed.

If I had to describe myself, I would say I am technically excellent, with a professional attitude, and an easy going but determined nature. I know when to be serious, but I am always ready to enjoy a hearty laugh. I can be quiet and unobtrusive, or boisterous depending upon the situation. I can talk to the highest of society or be on my stomach with a baby making funny noises. I love stretching my skills and trying new things, and I think if I tried to ‘specialise’ in one genre of photography I wouldn’t be honest to who I am, and it would do no justice to the decades worth of skills I have honed during my practice.

All that being said, my focus is not on me, it is on you and what you need me to do for you. You can be certain your time with me will be a fantastic experience, and you will not regret bringing me into your world to capture the fleeting moments that your life is made up of and make us the individuals that we are.

Thank you for taking the time to read my bio. I genuinely look forward to hearing from you.
